The short version

A marketing operations manager in the U.S. earns roughly $95,000 to $140,000 base in 2026, with a realistic midpoint near $115,000 for an in-house B2B role, based on Glassdoor, ZipRecruiter, Comparably and Robert Half data. Marketing ops has no dedicated public median in Pave's 2026 guide, so we bracket it: above the $110,000 generalist P3 median because of platform specialization, and well below the $166,700 marketing analytics manager median that the most technical ops leaders grow into. Senior marketing ops managers run $125,000 to $165,000; directors of marketing operations $150,000 to $210,000; and VP-level ops or RevOps leaders overlap the VP marketing band, where Pave reports a $252,471 median base.

The band is wide because the title covers two very different jobs. At one end is a marketing automation administrator who keeps HubSpot or Marketo running. At the other is a systems and data leader who owns the martech stack, the lead lifecycle, attribution, and increasingly the AI workflows that replaced manual list work. They share a title and are paid $60,000 apart.

The senior manager row is where the two versions of the job diverge most. A senior marketing ops manager whose work is mostly platform administration sits at the bottom of that range; one who owns attribution and warehouse-native reporting prices toward Pave's $166,700 analytics-manager median, because the work is the same.

Two jobs, one title: administrator vs. systems owner

Marketing operations pay splits along a line that job titles do not capture: whether the role administers tools or owns systems. Understanding which side of that line a given role sits on explains most of the variance in the public data.

The administrator profile

Builds and sends campaigns in the marketing automation platform, manages lists and forms, maintains lead scoring, handles sync errors with the CRM, and produces standard reports. Valuable, often certified, and increasingly automatable. Pay clusters at the bottom half of the P3 range and rarely crosses $120,000 outside Tier 1 metros.

The systems-owner profile

Designs the lead lifecycle and routing logic, owns the martech architecture and vendor relationships, builds or specifies the attribution model, maintains the marketing data model in the warehouse, and in 2026 designs the agentic workflows (enrichment, routing, follow-up, campaign QA) that replaced manual operations. This profile is paid on the analytics or engineering-adjacent curve. Postings for it use titles like "senior marketing operations manager," "marketing systems lead," "marketing technology manager" or "GTM operations," and they post ranges $30,000 to $50,000 above administrator postings with similar years of experience.

If you are in the administrator profile and want to move, the shortest path is attribution and data: SQL, a warehouse tool, and ownership of one model the CMO uses in board reporting.

What the public sources say

Glassdoor

Glassdoor's marketing operations manager page has one of the larger self-reported samples for a marketing title, with a total-pay estimate and a likely range. It blends administrator and systems-owner submissions and non-tech industries, which pulls its midpoint below what B2B SaaS pays. Its top quartile is a reasonable proxy for the systems-owner profile at a tech company.

ZipRecruiter

ZipRecruiter's posting-derived average and percentile bands for marketing operations manager are current and broad. Because postings for administrator roles are more numerous than systems-owner roles, the average skews toward the administrator profile.

Robert Half

Robert Half's marketing and creative guide lists "marketing operations manager" and "marketing automation specialist" as separate lines with 25th/50th/75th percentile figures and metro adjustments. It is the source most often cited by HR at non-tech employers and its separation of the two titles mirrors the administrator/owner split.

Comparably and Digital Waffle

Both provide company-size and metro breakdowns; Comparably's sample is smaller, Digital Waffle's guide is agency-oriented and useful for the specialist and manager levels.

Pave and Levels.fyi

Pave does not publish a marketing ops line in its public guide, which is why we bracket the role between its generalist and analytics figures. Levels.fyi has thin ops data outside the largest tech companies, but where it exists it shows equity adding materially to total compensation at senior levels.

AI and the marketing ops pay curve

Marketing operations is the B2B marketing role where AI has changed the pay curve most directly, because ops work is where the automation actually lands. List building, enrichment, lead routing, campaign QA, sync monitoring and first-draft reporting were the bulk of an administrator's week in 2022 and are increasingly handled by agentic tooling in 2026. The administrator profile is being compressed; the systems-owner profile is being paid more, because someone has to design, govern and audit the workflows.

Metadata.io, this site's sponsor, builds an agentic execution layer for B2B paid campaigns and publishes an AI Salary Guide for B2B Tech Marketing that makes the vendor-side case for this premium. We disclose that relationship and set the guide alongside independent evidence on the AI salary premium page. Independently, the postings at the top of the ops band in 2026 ask for a consistent set of things:

  • Ownership of the marketing data model in a warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks) and a reverse-ETL or CDP layer.
  • Design of enrichment and routing workflows using enrichment providers and workflow tools, with governance (who can change what, how errors surface).
  • Attribution model ownership, including the argument with finance about it.
  • Vendor management across a martech stack that now includes AI-native tools with usage-based pricing that someone has to control.

Those postings price the role near Pave's $166,700 analytics-manager median, and the best-paid ops leaders in B2B SaaS have effectively become the marketing org's data and systems engineers. Our sister site intentdatatools.com covers the data vendors that ops teams increasingly own.

Bonus, equity, geography and company size

Marketing ops bonuses are usually smaller than demand gen bonuses (5% to 10% at manager level is common) and tied to company performance rather than pipeline, because ops does not own a number the way demand gen does. That changes at RevOps leadership, where variable pay can be tied to forecast accuracy or revenue. Equity follows the standard pattern by company stage; see salaries by company size.

Geography matters slightly less for ops than for other marketing roles because ops work is more often remote and paid on a national band. Tier 1 metros still carry a premium; see salaries by city. Pave's 2026 data shows a 3.5% median salary-increase budget across 243 companies, which is the number to expect from a stay-in-place raise; the larger moves in ops come from crossing the administrator/owner line, not from annual increases.

Negotiating a marketing ops offer

Establish which profile the role really is. If the job description mentions attribution, data model, warehouse or workflow design, it is a systems-owner role and you should anchor on Pave's analytics-manager figure ($166,700 at M3) rather than the generalist figure. If it is an administrator role, anchor on the Robert Half 50th percentile for your metro and argue upward on certifications and the size of the database you manage. In both cases, ask whether the martech budget is yours; budget ownership is a pay argument. Full checklist on the negotiation page.

Our verdict

Marketing operations pays $95,000 to $140,000 at manager level in 2026, but the number that matters is which of the two jobs you are doing. Platform administration is a solid $100,000-ish career that AI is slowly compressing. Systems and data ownership is paid on the analytics curve, toward $166,700 and beyond at senior levels, and is growing. Every ops professional we would advise is moving toward the second profile, and the public salary data says they are right to.
