The short version
Fifteen questions we get most often about B2B marketing pay, answered from public data and linked to the page where the full numbers live. The pattern across all of them: the survey median is the number to negotiate against, self-reported and posting data tells you how wide the band is, and title matters less than level, metro and company stage. Every figure below is attributed; if a question is not here, the master table and the about page cover the rest.
B2B marketing salary questions, answered
What is the average B2B marketing salary in the United States in 2026?
The most useful single anchor is Pave's 2026 median base of $110,000 for a mid-level (P3) marketing individual contributor. Specialized B2B roles run above that at the same level: Pave reports a $122,564 median for demand generation and $122,500 for field marketing. The BLS median annual wage for all advertising, promotions and marketing managers is $138,730, but that figure blends every level and industry and should be read as a sanity check rather than a pay band. Our master table lists twenty roles with their anchors and sources.
How much does a demand generation manager make?
Pave's 2026 guide puts the median base for a P3 demand generation marketer at $122,564, roughly 11% above the generalist median at the same level. Self-reported and posting data on Glassdoor and ZipRecruiter put the bulk of in-house U.S. roles between $100,000 and $145,000 base, with bonus commonly 10 to 15% of base at B2B SaaS companies. Full breakdown by level on the demand generation manager salary page.
How much does a VP of marketing make at a B2B company?
Pave's 2026 data gives a $252,471 median base for a VP of marketing (E7) with a median new-hire equity grant of $880,500 at the companies in its sample. Public postings and self-reported comps cluster between $210,000 and $300,000 base. Bonus targets of 20 to 40% are common. Company stage changes the mix more than the title does; see the VP marketing salary page.
What does a B2B CMO earn?
Pave reports a $325,000 median base for a chief marketing officer, a 32.1% median bonus, and median total equity (current value) above $3.5 million at the companies it tracks. Base is the smallest part of the story at public companies, where RSUs often exceed cash. Details on the B2B CMO salary page.
Do AI skills actually increase marketing salaries?
Yes, but the premium is concentrated. Broad studies of job postings (PwC's AI Jobs Barometer reported a 56% wage premium for AI-skilled workers in 2025; Lightcast found postings requesting AI skills advertised roughly 28% higher pay) measure the whole economy, not marketers specifically. In marketing, Pave describes a widening skills premium for analytics and AI-adjacent specializations, and its analytics-manager median ($166,700) sits about 50% above the generalist P3 median. Metadata.io's AI Salary Guide (our sponsor) argues the premium goes to marketers who operate AI agents against pipeline metrics. Content production roles see little or no premium. Are the figures on this site base salary or total compensation?
Base salary unless the row says otherwise. Where a source publishes bonus or equity medians, we reproduce them in the anchor column and label them. Total compensation at growth-stage and public companies can be 30 to 100% above base once bonus and equity are included, which is why we show the components separately rather than a blended number.
Which B2B marketing roles pay the most?
By median base in Pave's 2026 data: CMO ($325,000), VP of marketing ($252,471), director of demand generation ($200,000), senior product marketing manager ($195,533) and marketing analytics manager ($166,700). Among individual contributors below director, analytics and product marketing lead; demand generation and field marketing follow. See the master table.
How much more do B2B marketers earn in San Francisco or New York than the national median?
BLS metro-level data for marketing managers shows the San Francisco-Oakland and New York-Newark metros running roughly 25 to 35% above the national median, with San Jose higher still. Pave states that Tier 1 markets (San Francisco, New York, Seattle) consistently run above national medians for comparable roles, and most remote-first employers now use two or three geographic pay tiers. Our salaries by city page has a 20-metro table across five roles.
Do startups or large companies pay B2B marketers more?
Base pay rises modestly with company size, but the composition of total compensation changes sharply. Seed and Series A companies pay lower base and larger equity grants of uncertain value; public companies pay the highest base plus liquid RSUs; mid-market private companies often pay the most predictable cash with modest equity. Pave's data shows the effect at the executive level, where median equity grants dwarf base. Details on the salaries by company size page.
How reliable is Glassdoor salary data for marketing roles?
Useful for the width of a range, weak for the midpoint. Glassdoor data is self-reported, titles are not normalized (a "marketing manager" entry can be an agency coordinator or a director), and base is sometimes mixed with total compensation. It covers small companies and agencies that survey data misses. We use it, along with ZipRecruiter and Comparably, to establish the 25th-to-75th-percentile spread, and prefer Pave or Robert Half survey medians as the anchor whenever one exists.
Why do posted salary ranges on job listings seem so wide?
Because posted ranges are negotiating anchors, not offers. Pay-transparency laws in California, Colorado, New York, Washington and other states require a range but do not require it to be narrow, and many employers post a range that spans two or three levels. A listing that says $90,000 to $180,000 is telling you the company has not decided which level it is hiring for. Ask which level the role is scoped at and negotiate against that band.
What is the difference between marketing operations and revenue operations pay?
RevOps roles generally pay $10,000 to $20,000 more than marketing ops at the same level because they span sales, marketing and customer success systems and usually report into the CRO or CFO. Public self-reported data places U.S. marketing operations managers roughly in the $95,000 to $140,000 band and RevOps managers in $110,000 to $160,000. Neither title has a clean survey anchor because large surveys fold them into broader categories. See marketing operations salary and RevOps salary.
What is a typical bonus for a B2B marketing manager?
Public postings and self-reported data suggest 10 to 15% of base for managers, 15 to 25% for directors, and 20 to 40% for VPs at B2B software companies, usually tied to pipeline or revenue targets. Pave publishes a 32.1% median bonus for CMOs. Bonus practice varies more by company than by role, so ask for the target percentage and the last two years of actual payout as a fraction of target.
How should I use this site to negotiate an offer?
Find the role page that matches your scope (not your title), identify the level that matches your responsibilities using the level scheme, take the anchor figure and its source into the conversation, and adjust for metro and company stage using the city and company-size pages. Lead with the survey median, not the top of a posting range. The negotiation page covers the sequence in detail.
Why is Metadata.io cited on this site, and does that bias the numbers?
Metadata.io sponsors this site and publishes a public AI Salary Guide for B2B Tech Marketing, which we cite as one source among roughly ten. The relationship is disclosed on every page. Metadata's guide is held to the same standard as every other source (public figures only, labeled on the row), we never use Metadata's internal metrics, and we set its claims beside independent data so readers can see where they diverge. Full disclosure on the about page.
Our verdict
Most salary confusion in B2B marketing comes from comparing numbers that measure different things. A Glassdoor average, a posted range and a Pave median are three different distributions. Pick the survey median for the level that matches your scope, adjust for metro and company stage, and treat everything else as evidence of how wide the band is rather than where you should land in it.
Disclosure. B2BMarketingSalaries.com is an independent editorial salary guide operated with sponsorship from Metadata.io, whose AI Salary Guide for B2B Tech Marketing is one of the sources cited on this site.
